If you have previously been published in Crannóg we recommend that you purchase a copy of the current issue, or hold a current subscription to Crannóg Magazine.
This keeps you up to date with what we publish and also your support ensures we will continue to publish quality writing long into the future.

Crannóg requires First Serial Rights
We accept simultaneous submissions on the condition that we are informed immediately if accepted elsewhere and we thank you in advance for doing this. However, we do not accept third party submissions. Submissions are accepted in good faith that they are the original work of the sender and that the attributed author is holder of copyright.

Frequently Asked Questions
When is Crannóg published?
Crannóg is published in March and September of each year.
When should I submit to Crannóg?
The month of November for the March issue. The month of May for the September issue.
Is there any other time I may submit?
No. Submission sent outside the submission windows will not be read.
May I submit to consecutive issues of Crannóg?
No. If you have been published in the current issue of Crannóg we ask that you do not submit for the immediately subsequent issue.
Do you charge for submissions?
No, we do not charge for submissions.
Should I purchase a copy of Crannóg before I submit?
If you have never been published in Crannóg we would appreciate that you first purchase a copy of the current issue and ensure that you are familiar with what we publish, and the style of the magazine including the bio style.
If you have been previously published in Crannóg we recommend that you purchase a copy of the current issue, or hold a current subscription to Crannóg.
Do you accept previously published work?
No. Crannóg requires First Serial Rights.
Do you accept simultaneous submissions
Yes. We accept simultaneous submissions on the condition that we are informed immediately if accepted elsewhere.
Do you accept third party submissions?
No. We do not accept third party submissions.
May I submit poems and short stories?
No. Your submission should consist of either a short story or poems.
How many poems may I submit?
Submit no more than three poems. Each poem should be under fifty lines.
How many short stories may I send?
Send one short story. Story should be 2,000 words or under.
What do I include in my submission?
Three Things:
- The submission itself as a Word file.
- A bio in the third person. Bios should conform to the style of bios in past issues of Crannóg.
- A postal address for contributor’s copy in the event of publication.
How can I facilitate the typesetting of Crannóg?
Submissions should be in 12 pt Times Roman or an equivalent readable font, single spaced.
Do not use tabs or spaces to indent paragraphs. Instead use First Line Indent of 5mm.
Use only one return at the end of a paragraph. Use two returns before a new section.
A new section should not have a first line indent.
Use single quotes for dialogue.
Use just one space after a full stop.
A hyphen and a dash are easily confused, so ensure you use the appropriate one.
Ensure each poem begins on a new page.
Ensure that poems are properly and fully punctuated.
In your bio type the names of journals in italics separated by commas; however the commas should not be in italics. (Yes, our proof-reader will spot it!)
Do you accept postal submissions?
No. Only submissions made through our submissions form (or by email to submissions@crannogmagazine.com) will be read.
Do you pay contributors?
We pay a publication fee of €120 per poem and €200 per story for 2022. The amount of the fee is subject to our annual funding. Contributors also receive a contributor’s copy and an invitation to attend/read at the launch of Crannóg in ‘The Listeners Club’ at The Crane, Sea Road, Galway, Ireland.
Do you nominate contributors for prizes?
Three contributors will be nominated for the Forward prize for best single poem.
Six contributors will be nominated for a Pushcart Prize (poetry & fiction).
